CONCEPT NOTE KILIFI COUNTY ANNUAL STAKEHOLDERS’ CONVENTION ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ACTION PLAN FOR COUNTERING VIOLENT EXTREMISM KILIFI COUNTY (K-CAP)

Kilifi County is one of the largest counties in the Coast region. With a population of 1,453,787 (704,089 male and 749673 female) (KNBS2019), the county is well endowed with beautiful sandy beaches and a well-developed tourism sector and huge potential for economic stability from its blue, green and agro-based economy. The last terrorist attack in the County occurred in Kikambala in November 2002. This attack resulted to devastating slump in the tourism sector leading to closure of major hotels and unemployment of the counties manpower. As a response to this threat, the Kilifi Action plan for preventing and countering violent extremism was launched in June 2017.

The implementation of the Action plan requires a multi-sectoral approach that brings on board key stakeholders like the Security agents, community leaders, families, peers, civil society and the private sector. At the launch of the action plan, a structure was established known as the Kilifi CVE Engagement Forum. The forum is co-chaired by the County Commissioner on behalf of the National Government and H. E. the Governor on behalf of the County.
