LAMU COUNTY PLAN FOR COUNTERING VIOLENT EXTREMISM

LAMU COUNTY PLAN FOR COUNTERING VIOLENT EXTREMISM

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We would like to acknowledge the Governor of Lamu County HE Issa Timamy and the County Commissioner Mr. Joseph Kanyiri for giving full support to the development process of the Lamu County Plan to Counter Violent Extremism (LCPCVE). We also wish to acknowledge the role played by the team comprised of Prof. Hamadi Iddi Boga (Taita Taveta University), Prof. Halimu Shauri (Pwani University) and Khamis Mwaguzo of Kenya Muslim Youth Alliance (KMYA), and Benson Gachichio of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) who spearheaded the development of the plan by providing the necessary technical expertise. We thank Sheikh Hassan Ole Nado of SUPKEM and Dr Mustafa Ali of BRAVE who gave the team insights into CVE matters. The LCPCVE would not have been complete without the robust and practical input from security agencies, the Lamu County Community, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Faith Based Organizations (FBOs) and the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization. Further, we acknowledge the contribution of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), County and National government officials for their input during the development stages of the plan. Finally, it is critical to mention and thank most sincerely the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) who funded this plan and the Development Alternatives Initiatives (DAI) for administering the funds. Without their support, this plan would have been harder to realize.
