BACKGROUND
Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE) is a Kenyan National NGO active in the Coast, Northern Kenya and Nairobi regions of Kenya. KECOSCE has its main offices in Mombasa. KECOSCE works with grassroots communities and at county/national level to facilitate a just, secure and progressive society. This is achieved through our strategic pillars including strengthening Democracy, Good governance and Human Rights, Supporting Sustainable Environment, climate resilience, livelihoods and poverty reduction and promoting Peace, Security and Inclusive Societies
This Position
The purpose of the Livelihood and Climate Resilience Officer position is to support implementing KECOSCE’s environment and climate resilient development strategy. Drawing on global approaches to support locally led adaptation, green growth, and sustainable development, the officer will build on KECOSCE’s existing livelihoods programs to promote business resilience, encourage sustainability and green businesses and advocacy.
- Identify and assess innovative approaches to support small and micro-entrepreneurs to overcome energy and water shortages.
- Support local community entrepreneurs especially women and youth on access to justice including small claims courts.
- Conduct community consultations and assessments to identify and ensure adaptive solutions for businesses are responsive to their needs.
- Conduct market and technical assessments to inform eco-efficient business adaptation strategies and green business opportunities in local markets.
- Identify potential solutions to energy and water shortages that are relevant to existing businesses (e.g., alternative energy applications, energy and water efficient equipment and production strategies), identify related business opportunities, and adapt training materials and approaches.
- Lead relevant assessments/research and generate internal and external reports accordingly.
- Develop learning on locally relevant, sustainable, and scalable strategies for blue economy, green growth, low-carbon solutions, energy access, and business resilience.
- Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation systems design and implementation to reflect climate resilience outputs and outcomes.
- Provide technical training and coaching to individual existing or new businesses.
- Support writing project proposals & concept notes related to blue economy, green growth, low-carbon solutions, energy access, and business resilience.
- Prepare and update information related to green growth, low-carbon solutions, energy access, and business resilience.
- Represent KECOSCE in relevant working groups and communities of practice at national level, and other relevant interagency workshops or events in related sectors.
- Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as requested by the supervisor.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in development studies, environmental studies, disaster risk reduction, climate change, or equivalent combination of education
and work experience; - 2 years of experience in development and/or humanitarian organizations, including significant practical professional experience related to climate change in civil society sector
- Expertise in climate science, SMEs and/or agribusiness development, sustainability, poverty alleviation, livelihood and social inclusion,etc.;
- Fluency in English and ability to effectively write reports;
- Strong facilitation skills, including the design and management of effective trainings, workshops and meetings with a diverse population;
- Competence with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
