BACKGROUND

Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE) is a Kenyan National NGO active in the Coast, Northern Kenya and Nairobi regions of Kenya. KECOSCE has its main offices in Mombasa.  KECOSCE works with grassroots communities and at county/national level to facilitate a just, secure and progressive society.  This is achieved through our strategic pillars including strengthening Democracy, Good governance and Human Rights, Supporting Sustainable Environment, climate resilience, livelihoods and poverty reduction and promoting Peace, Security and Inclusive Societies.

 

MAIN DUTIES

The Communications and Partnership Engagement officer will work under the overall leadership of the Executive Director and the direct supervision of the programs coordinator on media and public relations activities.  In relation to communication, officer serves as the focal point for public statements and other communication material from KECOSCE. He/she produces and disseminates press releases, information materials and regular publications, maintains the KECOSCE public website, and the initiative’s social media presence. In relation to partnership engagement.  The officer serves as the focal point for identifying potential partners for outreach, organizing resource mobilization and partnership engagement events and other duties.

Required Experience 

  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in communications and knowledge management, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Strong experience in the use of technology and social media to advance a communications strategy/agenda including Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.
  • Experience building and managing online communities with high engagement rates
  • Up to date on industry trends in communications and knowledge management and able to stay ahead of the latest developments in the industry.
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is an asset
  • Understanding of communications, public relations and marketing best practices
  • Knowledge of national and regional media environment and familiarity with journalist networks preferred
  • Experience engaging diverse stakeholders and partners toward common goals

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to ensure knowledge management and sharing of skills and information with diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering and strengthening relationships and partnerships with targeted stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation and networking skills.
  • Fluency in speaking, reading and writing in English. Knowledge of Kiswahili would be an added advantage.
