CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO PROVIDE TRAINING SERVICES TO VTI TRAINERS IN TANA DELTA SUB COUNTY OF TANA RIVER COUNTY

 

1.0 Background Information:

Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE) is a national NGO working on the Coast of Kenya. KECOSCE implements human security (humanitarian, peace building, policy and advocacy, and Livelihoods) projects through its cooperation with communities, public and private local actors since 2006.

 

In partnership with Islamic Relief Kenya and with support from Islamic Relief Netherlands and Mensen Met Een Missie (MM), KECOSCE is implementing the Inter-Religious Cooperation for Peace building and Economic Empowerment Project in Tana River County, Kenya. The project seeks to increase tolerance, cohesion, and improved livelihoods among poor communities

 

2.0 Information on the Call for Expression of Interest:

In order to improve take advantage of existing natural wealth in Tana River County and to contribute to the global SDGs, national and county goals of ending poverty, KECOSCE is working with the existing Vocational and Training Institutions in Tana Delta Subcounty to improve value chains to facilitate access of vulnerable youths and women to viable markets with appropriate products and services.

 

Vocational Training Institutes in Tana River County have a special role to play in providing the knowledge and practical skills that empower people to improve the quality of their daily lives and earn income. The progress achieved in school enrolment worldwide, as a logical consequence, requires significant progress also in access to and quality of TVET for the increasing number of young people who complete primary and secondary education. It is therefore important to strengthen the linkages between education and sustainable social and economic development, with the promotion of technical and vocational education that offers practical skills and broader competencies, opening pathways to higher education and improving employability and entrepreneurship.

 

It is for this reason that Kenya Community Support Centre is issuing this call for experts to facilitate the delivery of short training workshops on topics related to the following value chains

  1. Apiculture (beekeeping),
  2. Carpentry and Joinery,
  3. Fisheries/ecotourism
  4. Business development and management

 

3.0 Deliverables

  1. The training program, not more than five days.
  2. All Presentations and support training material be in soft copy format or hard copies for distribution to participants on the first day of the workshop.
  3. A list of the needed tools and equipment (with contacts of suppliers) for the trades. E.g. beehives, harvesting equipment, packaging, extraction machines, etc.
  4. A business model linking the trainees in the TVET to the market
  5. Post-training assessment report and actionable follow-up program

 

4.0 Consultancy Timeframe The consultancy assignment is expected to take about 5 days (to be agreed upon by both parties) and consists of the development of manual, actual training, reporting, and technical assistance to the instructors.  Before commencing the tasks, the Service Provider should develop and share plans for each deliverable with KECOSCE.

 

5.0 Coordination of Field Visits the Service Provider will make his/her logistic arrangements and cover all relevant expenses associated with travel and stay in the field. KECOSCE will facilitate the logistical costs of the participants and training materials.

 

6.0 Ethics and Child Protection the consultant is obliged to respect the following ethical and child protection requirements:

  • Conflict of interest: The consultant must demonstrate the necessary independence and declare any conflict of interest and potential biases, including bias towards any of the stakeholders, target groups, social, political or religious prejudice.
  • Based on rights and ethics: The consultant must respect the rights and dignity of participants as well as comply with relevant ethical standards and KECOSCE’s Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.

 

7.0 Service Provider’s profile:

  1. Diploma or related certificates in any of the following fields Apiculture, Carpentry and Joinery, Fishery and Ecotourism, business development and management
  2. Be conversant with current business models and practice around the beekeeping sub-sector Proven experience of using participatory tools and methodology.
  3. Demonstrated experience and success in delivering the same courses
  4. Good interpersonal skills

 

8.0 Payment Parties will agree on a payment schedule with the successful bidder that will be based on the achievement of set milestones.
