Parents accused of failing in their roles

PARENTS in Mombasa have been blamed for failing in their responsibility to instil morals and character in their children.Gangs of youth aged between 14-20 have been terrorising residents in areas like Kisauni, Old Town, Kibokoni, Majengo and Tudor.“It has become a norm for boys as young 14 years to kill people,” Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir said.Nassir spoke during the annual Eid Baraza at Treasury Grounds on Sunday.He criticised parents for not questioning the whereabouts of their children when they do not come home.

Nassir said youth should not blame unemployment to engage in crime activities.He said even arresting the youth does not help since they are bailed out a few days after they are convicted in the court.“I have written to the county commissioner for an explanation why the boys get out of police custody when they are caught. Is it the OCS or the judge?” he asked.Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba told Chief Kadhi Sheikh Ahmed Muhdhar to stop operations of Imams who have allowed terror gangs to breed in mosques.He said Chief Kadhi holds an critical position in the society and he should work with Imams to control rogue youth.Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho directed the county inspectorate to work hand in hand with the police to crack down the gangs which have been also blamed for drug trafficking in the county.“I don’t want to hear about ‘Magwedes’ and ‘Crazy Boyz’ anymore,” he said referring to some of the terror groups.
