ANTI-terror police yesterday interrogated a suspected member of a terror gang in Mombasa.Jamal Abubakar was arrested on Sunday at Old Town.Coast regional police commander Robert Kitur said they recovered three buibuis and crude weapons from his house during a joint operation by undercover police officers.“He is a dangerous person and has a pending assault case at Central police station,” he said.Kitur was addressing the media during a security meeting yesterday.“Our officers have been trailing him for a while over claims of knife attacks and organised crime within Old Town,” he said.

Abubakar is being held at Central police station.Kitur said they are investigating if he is part of the terror gang behind last month’s killing of Crime Intelligence Unit officer Mohamed Ibrahim in Kibokoni and the recent robbery at Bondeni Gulf Bank.During the robbery, a policeman attached to Central police station was attacked by three men armed with rifles and dressed in buibuis.Police yesterday filed an application in Mombasa asking to continue detaining Jamal. The security meeting was attended by county commissioner Nelson Marwa, senior police officers, subcounty officials and chiefs.Marwa said prominent people could be funding the terror gang that disguises itself with buibuis.“They roam around in cosy vehicles. But we will smoke them out,” he said
